Travelogue
Ursula Böhmer
Travelogue presents the first comprehensive overview of Ursula Böhmer’s photographic work. Guided by her interest in the perception of nature and sensory experiences of the world, Böhmer seeks to create an awareness of fauna and flora in their role as counterparts in analog black-and-white photographs.
She first gained renown for her project “All Ladies – Cows in Europe,” a typological study of old, endangered breeds of cattle. During her travels across Europe, she learned of various agricultural cultures.
Her perspective on the cow subsequently led her to a close observation of surfaces and textures that reveal astonishing formal connections—where animal bodies evoke the topography of the mountains, fragments of rivers resemble icescapes, and trees become bodies.
Her current nature studies present various aspects of that moment of irritation that arises when observing the everyday.
